Taos – $47 (Saved $10)

Skied Taos today. Still not a whole lot open, no fresh snow, but they are open top to bottom on the front and back. Wasn’t too bad first thing in the morning, nice fresh groomed cords all over and empty slopes – super high speed gs type turns all over the place, flying down the mountain.

Great scenery up there, but really really really really really need more snow! And there’s nothing in the 10 day forecast =(

Loveland – $50

Spent the weekend at Joe and Debbies in Denver, and skied at loveland on New Years eve. *Awesome*. Only a few inches fresh over night, but there had been about a foot in the previous 2 days. Was a bit choppy, but plenty of nice soft fresh snow, and I even found a few spots that were untouched fresh boot-top pow, and finally got the hang of turning in it! Woohoo bouncy floaty powder turns!

First full day skiing – was on one of the first chairs at 8:30 and skied until 3:30, just before closing, with only a short break for lunch. Explored the whole place, awesome awesome day!

Santa Fe – Pass (Saved $34)

Santa Fe is hurting so badly! Essentially one run open, I guess it’s “top to bottom”, but not reallly. Super short, chair ride sucks for such a short run down, and I kept getting yelled at for going too fast =(

Skied Taos today.

Picked up my new 170 Nordica Hot Rod Nitrous from Alpine Extreme. Strangely, they only had demo bindings, and their rep told them that was all they’d be getting. They’re not much heavier than the normal bindings, so I don’t really mind – a bonus is that I can move them forward and backward on the ski to my liking – going to move them formward from where they are now.

Unfortunately, it’s xmas break time and it seems Texas has annexed Taos – it’s a monday, the parking lots were packed, and more than half the cars were from Texas. yuck. Trash everywhere, everything is scraped clean. Didn’t stay too long, but still had a decent time. Love the new skis!

Skied Breck again today w/ Chris (Jen stayed in). Demoed Volkl Mantra. Better than my heads, but nowhere near as fun as the Nit’s.

Demoed HR Nit’s – these things are awesome – super stable at any speed, lock right into a carve, absolutely love them!

Taos – $28

Hit Taos again today. Bit scrapey, no new terrain open. Need more snow!

Legs definately coming back, and finally (I think) got the boots dialed in. Going to try skiing them without the footbeds next weekend – the only thing that’s really bothering me is the arch of both feet once the boots are buckeled tight – the footbeds have real high arches matching mine, and I think when they’re buckled down that footbed arch is pressuring the arch in my foot and causing it to get soar/crampy.

Hit Taos today. 3 runs open, plenty of snow making, and they got about 6″ overnight. Took a bit longer to drive than I expected as road conditions through santa fe and up through the mountains were shit, so I missed the fresh groomed courderoy in the morn, but still very nice. Finally starting to get my legs back – was making some more-dynamic turns on edge, think I finally got my boots to where they’re comfy yet tight enough to give me good control, and I’m not even sore. yay!

Wolf Creek – $35

I was at WC this last Sunday. It was…Well, I had a really good time

Up top on Alberta face was all chopped up, but was about 2-3′ of soft stuff on top of rocks (my binding pre-released and I had to posthole up about 10ft, was definately climbin on rocks).

The stuff lower down was pretty thin in alot of spots. Lots of taller grass showing through, lots of li’l trees, and rocks to watch out for. I was really surprised at some of what they had “open”. Doesn’t seem like they’ve really got enough snow anywhere to actually groom either.

Was a really nice trip overall, beautiful scenic drive up from Alb and stopped at a few overlooks as well as Treasure Fall on the way back – waaaay cool.

If you’re lookin for good snow though, WC isn’t currently the place to find it.

A-Basin – Pass (saved $38)

Skied ABasin today. Like yesterday at Loveland, beautiful snow in the morning, big fluffy flakes. Definately winter up here!

Much more crowded than Loveland, but not terrible in the morning. Using the singles line I didn’t wait more than 5 minutes or so for a chair.

2 runs open. The second one had snow blown on it for the last few days, and there was a really nice ~3″ layer of fresh (manmade) on top of it. Very nice!
