fun notes

when using a for loop in bash, if the list of things you want to act upon is in a file, and you want the items to be lines from that file, you must do:

for x in `cat filename`; do action; done

notice the quotes, they’re both the funny things over the tilde

or, if the list of things you want to act on is files in a directory…

for i in *.tar.gz; do tar -xvzf $i; done

to find and replace in vi:

Weekend…

Busy weekend. Headed up to The Boot Doctors in Taos Saturday morning to drop off the Chubbs for mounting and the Heads for some TLC.

Their shop tech, John, is *awesome*, really good guy. Talked to me about my ski’s and tuning and bs for like 45 minutes. Agreed that the Heads are very very base high, said he’d get ‘em flat and make sure the bevels are set right. Really good people there, top notch shop – will probably use them for all my mouting/repair/etc needs from now on, despite the drive.

Unfortunately, upon leaving Taos, my emergency brake locked. I had it engaged while I was parked on a bit of a hill, and it didn’t want to let go when I released it. It loosened up after a bit of movement, but for about half my drive back from Taos my brakes were really, really mushy and weak – thought they were going to go out which is not much fun driving down out of the mountains. In addition, I can tell the brake is still slightly engaged. At times it won’t move from a dead stop at idle, without giving it a nice punch of gas, and I can feel the rear end dragging. ugh, pain the ass I tell you.

So, the plan is to drop the car off Wed morning to get that fixed while I’m out of town, and hopefully pick it up late the night I get back, since I have to drive back to Taos the 16th to pick up my gear.

Made it over to the Chile Addict thismorning to pick up chili and spices for fam/friends back home. Great little shop, lots of good stuff. I almost don’t want to take the goods to Cleveland, I want to eat them all myself!

After that, spent rest of the day workin on the bathroom with Sheila and Ben. Well, mostly Sheila and I watching Ben work on the bathroom and helping out where we could. Ton of progress today though – got the old shower/bath plumbing all ripped out, new plumbing in, wall patched up, and most of the base tile laid. Only tile left to lay are the pieces that require cutting, and the sunken window/shelf thing we put in. Starting to really look good! Pictures in the gallery. Images/Bathroom.
